Current manufacturer/importer/distributor established in 1956, and located in Martinsburg, WV beginning late 2014. Previously located in Ridgefield, NJ 1962-2002, and Union City, NJ. Navy Arms temporarily suspended the importation of firearms and reproductions 2012-2015. Navy Arms is one of the oldest black powder importers and distributors in the United States. In addition to black powder pistols and longarms, Navy Arms has also sold black powder cartridge conversions of Colt pistols, western cartridge-firing pistols, rifles and shotguns, edged weapons, muzzleloading accessories, Civil War leather accessories, accoutrements, and presentation cases. Navy Arms black powder pistols were principally manufactured by A. Uberti & Co., and by F.lli Pietta.
The late Val Forgett, Sr., former president of Navy Arms Co., is given credit for starting the Italian black powder reproduction and replica business. When in Italy on a gun tour during 1959, he placed the first American order for a quantity of Colt 1851 Navy reproductions. These black powder reproductions and replicas are marked "Navy Arms Co." on the top of the barrel, "Made In Italy" on the right side of the barrel, and "NAVY ARMS CO." on the frame.
He also ordered and purchased Uberti's first gun, a Colt 1860 Navy, which was entered into the Uberti factory log book on Oct. 14, 1959. Forgett was also the first supplier of components for Colt Industries and produced the earliest examples of the 2nd Generation Colt 1851 Navy models.
