PRE-WOODSMAN Get Pricing .22 LR cal., 6 5/8 in. barrel, 10 shot mag., blue only, bottom mag. release, checkered wood grips, adj. front and rear sights, this model was officially named "Colt Automatic Pistol, Caliber .22 Target Model", magazine base has 2-line legend "CAL .22" "COLT". Standard velocity ammo. only. Approx. 54,000 mfg. 1915-1927.
WOODSMAN 1ST SERIES Get Pricing .22 LR cal., 10 shot mag., blue only, bottom mag. release, checkered wood grips, marked "The Woodsman" on receiver, adj. sights, mfg. from 1927-1947, total production was approx. 112,000.
Woodsman Sport Model Get Pricing 4 1/2 in. barrel, this model was introduced in 1933.
WOODSMAN 1ST SERIES MATCH TARGET Get Pricing .22 LR cal. only, 6 5/8 in. heavy barrel, commonly called "Bullseye" Match Target, mfg. 1938-44, production totaled around 16,000. Difficult to find in mint condition. Values listed assume original one-piece extended walnut grips.
Woodsman 1st Series Match Target "U.S. Property" Marked Get Pricing approx. 4,000 Match Target Woodsmans were sold to the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during WWII. Most have serial numbers above MT12500, although some were shipped out of sequence with lower numbers. The wartime guns had elongated plastic stocks and standard blue finish, although some of them are now parkerized as the result of arsenal refinishing or other non-factory modifications. They are marked with either "US PROPERTY" or the ordnance wheel with crossed cannon, as well as the initials of the govt. inspector. Some also have additional markings.
WOODSMAN 2ND SERIES Get Pricing .22 LR cal. only, slide stop and hold open, push button mag. release on this model is located on the left side of frame, Colt Master rear sight was introduced during 1953, Coltwood plastic grips (mfg. 1947-1950) or brown plastic grips (mfg. 1950-55), total production on all 2nd Series was (not including the Challenger) approx. 146,000, serialization has "S" suffix. Mfg. 1947-1955.

CHALLENGER MODEL Get Pricing similar to Woodsman 2nd Series, only with fixed sights, without hold open, and bottom mag. release, plastic grips, 4 1/2 and 6 in. barrels, mfg. 1950-1955 with total production reaching approx. 77,000.
WOODSMAN 3RD SERIES Get Pricing .22 LR cal. only, slide stop and hold open, black plastic grips (mfg. 1955-60) or walnut grips (1960-77), 3rd Models can be differentiated from 2nd Models by their bottom mag. release. Total production of all 3rd series Woodsman models (not including the Huntsman or Targetsman) exceeded 100,000, serialization has "S" suffix. Mfg. 1955-1977.
Woodsman 3rd Series Match Target Model Get Pricing 4 1/2 or 6 in. heavy barrel. This model is not marked Woodsman on the gun.
HUNTSMAN MODEL Get Pricing .22 LR cal. only, fixed sights and no hold open, 4 1/2 and 6 in. barrels, black plastic grips to serial number 141094-C; walnut grips after that cutoff. Mfg. 1955-1977 with total production reaching over 100,000.
Huntsman Model S Master Series Get Pricing approx. 400 Model S Masters were sold in 1983. This was a parts clean-up by Colt, using Huntsman frames leftover from the last days of production. They were equipped with automatic slide stop and Elliason rear sight, gold etching on the slide, and a French fitted walnut case marked "1 of 400". Approx. 285 had straight, non-tapered Huntsman barrel, while the remainder had the tapered Woodsman Sport barrel with pinned front sight.
TARGETSMAN MODEL Get Pricing similar to the Huntsman, except has adj. rear sight and thumbrest on left grip, 6 in. barrel only, approx. 65,000 mfg. 1959-1977.
CADET Get Pricing .22 LR cal., 4 1/2 in. barrel, stainless steel, 10 shot mag., predecessor to the Colt 22 Model, originally introduced in 1994, fixed sights, this model was disc. by 1995 because of litigation involving the trademarked model name, 33 1/2 oz.
COLT 22 Get Pricing .22 LR cal., 4 1/2 in. VR barrel, stainless steel, fixed sights, 10 shot mag., one-piece black Pachmayr rubber grips, 33 1/2 oz. Mfg. 1994-1998.

The Colt Woodsman was made for 62 years, and included a multitude of variations/options in models, sights, barrels, grips, markings, etc. Many of the variations are quite scarce and desirable, but generally known only to specialized collectors. The following price guidelines are for standard production models, and only for those specimens in unmodified, factory original condition.
Over 690,000 Woodsmans with variations were mfg. 1915-1977.
