COMBINATION GUNS

Many imported combination guns designed for the U.S. have been known as turkey guns in the past, typically with a .22 rimfire/medium cal. centerfire rifle barrel over a 12 ga., 20 ga., or .410 bore shotgun barrel. European guns typically have metric rifle cals., and the shotgun barrel is usually 12 or 16 ga., with the shotgun barrel over the rifle barrel. The rifle barrel typically is provided with a single set trigger. European combination guns (see configurations below) need to be evaluated individually, since values will depend on the desirability of the gun's configuration in the U.S. (i.e., metric vs. American cals., gauge, type of lock, engraving, quality of wood, etc.). The most desirable combination gun configuration is the one shown in the middle below where the shotgun barrel is above the rifle barrel. This allows the rifle barrel to be in line with a shooter's shoulder and the center of gravity for better accuracy and less muzzle rise during shooting. Most European boxlock combination guns with metric cals. in average condition are currently priced in the $1,500-$3,500 range. A premium can be added for factory or custom-order quick detach mounted scope. Newly-constructed, custom-ordered, top quality major trademark European combination guns with profuse engraving and best-quality wood can sell for $25,000+ or more. Typical American combination guns (the Savage Model 24 and others) are priced in the $400-$700 range, depending on condition.
