Randy Luth founded DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services, Inc.) in 1985 in Osseo, MN originally offering firearm parts and accessories. In the 1990s, they began manufacturing their own AR-15s and later moved to Becker, MN before relocating to St. Cloud, MN in 2004. In December 2007, Cerberus Capital Management acquired the assets of DPMS. The new company name became DPMS Firearms, LLC, then later DPMS Firearms. In 2015, the Freedom Group became Remington Outdoor Company. In January 2020, Remington Outdoor Company announced they had made the decision to focus on their core hunting and shooting brands thus halting DMPS production. However, Remington filed for bankruptcy in September 2020, and the assets were sold at auction to JJE Capital Holdings, LLC. Their headquarters are located in West Columbia, SC.
