7.62x39mm (most common cal., former Russian M43 military), 5.45x39mm (Romanian mfg. or Saiga/MAK - recent mfg. only), or .223 Rem. cal., semi-auto Kalashnikov action, typically 16 1/2 in. barrel, 5, 10, or 30* (C/B 1994) shot curved mag., stamped (most common) or milled (pre-1959) receiver, wood or synthetic stock and forearm except on folding stock model, 1994-early 1998 importation typically had newer "sporterized" fixed stocks with thumbholes, may be supplied with bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, patterned after former military production rifle of China and Russia.
