AK-47/AKM Post 2004 Mfg./Importation Description
most AK-47/AKMs manufactured/imported after 1998 utilize plastic/synthetic furniture, stamped receivers, and folding/telescoping stocks which have different components and construction from those rifles/carbines produced before 1998. Recent U.S. assembly refers to an original stamped European (mostly FEG) or milled receiver with U.S. assembly, using either new parts or matched, older unused original Eastern European-manufactured parts (BATFE 922.R compliant). This newest generation of AK-47/AKMs typically have features as described above, and cannot be sold in several states. Check city and state laws regarding high capacity magazine compliance.
The most desirable configuration of these recently assembled rifles/carbines has a folding/collapsible stock, high capacity mag., barrel compensator, and a bayonet lug.
These post-2004 AK-47/AKM variations typically do not have import markings, which indicates they have been made up as "parts guns" assembled from various manufacturers, and have usually been put together in the U.S. recently. Additional AK-47 listings can be found under current individual manufacturers and importers listed separately in this text (i.e., Arsenal Inc., Century International, Interarms, etc.).
