These custom made versions of the Lightning Field, Super Light, Trap, and Skeet guns feature specifications the same as Standard models, with differences in finish, engraving and inlay(s), and grade of wood and checkering. These guns were developed as an alternative due to the escalating cost of the B-25 and was introduced by FN in 1977 and were disc. after 1984. Gauge premiums below refer to Models P1-P3.
P1-P3 Presentation Models were acid etched as opposed to hand engraved. Although some P1-P3 Models were signed by engravers, it does not indicate they were hand engraved. P1-P3 models with gold inlay were often signed as the gold work did require hand work. Very few P1-P3 were fully hand engraved and these are often referred to as the “prototypes” that were needed to establish the “molds” in order to do the acid etching. The few prototypes produced in 1977 are indicated by the “RR” serial number code. True hand engraved P1-P3 models can best be determined by the stippling on the top rear of the receiver. These few all hand engraved prototypes command a premium. All P4 receivers were hand engraved and sideplated.
Since P Series Superposed were disc. in 1985, collector interest has increased substantially. Interestingly, the P series models are rarer than most of the pre-1976 high grade Superposed models.
