Enfield converted rifles were originally intended to be reserve arms and for sales to foreign militaries. Sterling Engineering produced a kit for converting the No.4, differing fundamentally from the Enfield version by the use of an external ejector and a Sterling-made mag.
Few legitimate Enfield (or Sterling) converted L8 rifles exist, though hundreds of No.4s were converted for military match competition by Canadian Arsenals Limited (CAL) and various UK gunsmiths in the 1960s and '70s. The Canadian rifles have the CAL stylized broad arrow proof mark in place of "19T".
