Mfg. for European resistance movement during WWII, very limited number used in Europe, most used in Philippines and China. 1 million mfg. 1942 only.
An authentic instruction sheet will have a watermark reading "WHITING MUTUAL BOND RAG CONTENT", and all ammo will have a headstamp of "FA 42". This is the only pistol that could be mfg. (6.6 sec.) faster than it could be loaded (10 sec.). While the Liberator's appearance is crude, remember that the entire production run (1 million) was mfg. and ready for overseas shipment in 10-11 weeks.
Even though 1 million of these pistols were mfg., remaining specimens brought into the U.S. are rare. Complete pistols in original box are extremely rare.
