Remington No.1 Rifle Cane in .22 Short RF - handle configurations include the small dog's head and two variations of curved handles (short shaft and long shaft). Remington No. 2 Rifle Cane in .32 short rimfire - handle configurations include the large dog's head and two variations of curved handles (short shaft and long shaft). Cane coverings are black Gutta Percha, many different handle, barrel, shaft and overall lengths (33½ in. to 36½ in. known) were made. A number of after-market handles are known. Remington's rimfire cane guns were first made with internal hammers, but were improved with a rod driving the firing pin. At least 1,750 rimfire rifle canes were made after the Civil War and prior to 1886.
Factory special order canes such as coral colored Gutta Percha (.32 long rimfire cal.) or takedown canes are too rare to be priced. During 2010, a fourth example of a coral colored cane rifle in .32 cal. and standard curved handle was discovered.
