(disc. 2002) cal., 20 (carbine mfg. 1962-1963), 22, or 24 in. barrel, open sights, 4 shot mag., checkered Monte Carlo stock or brown laminated stock (new 1988). Mfg. 1962-2005.
During 1962-63, the 20 in. barrel was standard on .222 Rem., .222 Rem. Mag., .243 Win., .270 Win., .280 Rem., .30-06, or .308 Win. cal. In 1964, these cals. had a standard barrel length of 22 in.; 24 in. barrels were standard on 7mm Rem. Mag. and .264 Win. Mag. cal.
During 1984, Remington began stamping a safety warning on the barrel.
In 1987-89, Remington introduced a Model 700 Gun Kit that enabled the owner to assemble the stock to the barreled action. All metal work was completely finished and wood finishing was all that is required. This kit was available in most popular cals. - last MSR price was $333 (1989).
