This model was specifically mfg. for a San Francisco retailer, Philip Bekeart. Originally, Mr. Bekeart ordered 1,000 guns to his specifications, S&W mfg. 5,000. While the first 1,000 revolvers in ser. no. range 138226 to 139275 with grip numbered 1-1000 are accepted as "True Bekearts", only 292 were actually delivered to Philip Bekeart.
