Brazilian National Coat of Arms and 1937 contract date stamped on sideplate.

37,000 originally sold to Brazil throughout the 1-210,000 range. First delivery of 25,000 circa 1937-1938 in the 181983-207043 S/N range (with checkered S&W silver medallion wood grips and "square" rear sight notch), second delivery of 12,000 guns circa 1946 in the 1-210,000 S/N range (with plain wood grips and "U" rear sight notch) assembled from old factory stockpiled parts. Approx. 14,000 with heavy use were imported back to the US circa late 1980s.
