This model was mfg. on the April 1914 patent of C.D. Lovelace, who worked mainly in the San Angelo, TX area and manufactured two variations of this gun in .38 cal. The first variation was marked "Texas Gun Co." around the cocking rod. The second variation has "The Texas Gun Co, San Angelo, TX" cast into the top of the action. The Lovelace patent was issued in 1914 and an arrangment was made with F.C. Taylor Fur Co. to market these guns under the name of SureShot, with the F.C. Taylor logo and 1914 patent date cast into the top of two variations of the gun, a rounded top brass frame and a flattop brass frame. An alloy or pot metal frame version had two screws attaching the top frame cover. Most of this variation will be found badly damaged, with cracked frames (rarely seen). From 1914-1921, three variations of the Taylor .38 cal. were marketed in this seven-year period, which indicates the rarity of the .38 cal. It took from 1921 to 1939 for F.C. Taylor to sell just over 3,100 .22 cal. guns. A fourth variation .38 cal. will be found with the Taylor logo ground off the round top frame variation, with the 1914 patent date. These guns were sold to and marketed by Biggs Fur Co. of Kansas City.
