Gunsmiths Don Allen and Pete Grisell founded Dakota Arms Inc. in Sturgis, SD in 1986. They offered high-end bolt-action rifles, single-shot rifles, and side-by-side shotguns with many custom options. On June 5, 2009, Remington Arms Company bought Dakota Arms and they became part of the Freedom Group, which was later renamed Remington Outdoors Group. In September 2020, Remington filed for bankruptcy and their assets were sold at auction. In 2021, the company was reorganized and emerged as Parkwest Arms led by Steve Rabackoff. Parkwest offers similar high-end rifles in the spirit of the original Dakota Arms as well as a new AR-15 design (see Parkwest Arms for more information). Dakota also owned the rights to Miller Arms and Nesika actions. Please refer to these individual sections for more information.
