ALLEN & THURBER

Ethan Allen started several manufacturing businesses in order to keep up with expanding demand after 1832. In 1837, Ethan Allen joined in partnership with Charles Thurber (his brother-in-law) and they formed Allen & Thurber in Grafton, MA. The company moved to Norwich, CT in 1842, along with the Wheelocks (Allen's other brother-in-law). In 1843, Ethan Allen invented an engraving machine to do rolled scroll. During 1847, Allen & Thurber moved to Worcester, MA. Manufacture at the time used this barrel address, but some pistols are still marked Norwich.
