ALLEN & WHEELOCK

On Jan. 2, 1856, Charles Thurber retired and sold his shares to Ethan Allen for $6,500. The firm changed its name to Allen & Wheelock. During 1856, Allen & Wheelock began manufacturing rifles, less than 500 were manufactured. On May 21, 1864, Thomas Wheelock died at age 51 of apoplexy. In 1865, a new company was formed, consisting of Ethan Allen and two of his sons-in-law, Henry Wadsworth and Sullivan Forehand.
