In late 2007, Remington Arms Company, Inc. announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Marlin Firearms Company, Inc. The agreement included Marlin, H&R 1871, LLC, New England Firearms, and L.C. Smith. The transaction closed in early 2008 and was followed by a strategic manufacturing consolidation move that resulted in the closure of its Gardner, Massachusetts plant.
During 2000, Marlin Firearms Co. purchased the assets of H&R 1871, Inc., and the name was changed to H&R 1871, LLC. Brand names include Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms, and Wesson & Harrington.
