In 1958, company founder Aldo Uberti became the first Italian black powder manufacturer to build a reproduction Colt black powder pistol. At the time, he was an employee of Beretta, and his wife Gepi (still living), is directly related to the Beretta family. Inspection of the factory records reveals that the first black powder reproduction (1851 Navy) was returned from the proof house on Oct. 14, 1959. Mr. Uberti, who passed away in 1998, began manufacturing reproductions and replicas in quantity for Val Forgett of Navy Arms in 1959, and throughout his career produced all of the original Colt black powder designs. Please refer to Colt Blackpowder Reproductions & Replicas – A Collector's & Shooter's Guide (ISBN: 1-886768-11-0) for color pictures of Uberti makes and models listed below.
