.45-70 Govt. cal., standard sporting rifle, 28 in. octagon or round barrel, barrels marked "G.W. Morse Patented Oct. 28th 1856", blue receiver and full magazine capacity of 9 rounds, walnut stock, loading port on right side, serpentine shaped lever, typically w/o Whitney markings, tangs are marked "A. Burgess Patented Jan. 7th 1873", several variations, including the First, Second, and Third models, as well as military carbines and muskets. RF=3.

This model was also known as the Whitney-Burgess-Morse lever action repeating rifle, mfg. through a license agreement with Andrew Burgess, total production of approx. 2,000 were made between 1878-1882.
