MODEL C (1908) Description

BB/.175 cal. (smoothbore), same valve arrangement as the Model "B" but with a patented safety trigger to prevent dangerous bursting, gun can fire without the trigger being pulled, smaller trigger lever visible on top, but enclosed by receiver at back, breech cap stamped with "Benjamin Air Rifle & Manufacturing Co.", and 1899 to 1906 patents, not stamped with any model designation, sides of upper rear receiver unit without projections to side, short barrel version stops short of front end of body tube, very rare. Regular barrel version, rare.

The above early Benjamins are single shot (except for the unknown Repeater model), rod-at-the-muzzle, smoothbore, muzzle loading, pump-up pneumatic air rifles with walnut quarter stocks. The reader is referred to The St. Louis and Benjamin Air Rifle Companies, D.T. Fletcher - Publisher, 1999, ISBN-1-929813-04-X. There apparently is no "Model D" Benjamin. An unsuccessful attempt to put a conical exhaust valve in a "Model C" may have represented the "Model D."
