.45 cal., 5 shot sliding-bar magazine resembling a harmonica with percussion nipples located on top, manually indexed, magazine locking lever on right side of frame, 32-40 in. octagon barrel marked "J.M. BROWNING" sometimes followed by year of manufacturer, Kentucky style blade front and notch rear sight, hardwood stock and forend, brass frame, upper and lower tangs, and buttplate, steel lockplate mechanism, wooden ramrod. Mfg. in either Quincy or Nauvoo, IL, circa 1840s - early 1850s by Jonathan M. Browning. RF=5+.
