Colt New Service Model 1909 Transition Description

a steel block was installed between the hammer and firing pin. The steel block would lower when the pistol is cocked, when not cocked the steel block is in the up position to block the hammer from striking the firing pin if dropped. Old Model serial numbers 0-21000. Mfg. 1898-1909. New Model added the "positive lock", serial numbers 21000-348000. Mfg. 1909-1943.
