COLT PATERSON NO. 1 POCKET MODEL Description
.28 cal., single action, 2 1/2-4 3/4 in. octagon barrel, 5 shot cylinder, folding trigger, varnished walnut grips, serial range 1 to approx. 500. Standard barrel marking "Patent Arms M'g Co. Paterson N.J.-Colt's Pt.", Centaur scene with four horse head trademark and "COLT" on 1 1/16 in. cylinder of round or square type, blue metal finish. Mfg. 1837-1838.
This and all other Paterson models have 5 shot cylinders and serial numbers are not commonly in evidence externally. Disassembly of the arm is usually necessary to determine the serial number.
The Pocket Model Paterson No. 1 (Baby Paterson) is the first production-made handgun in Colt's Paterson, N.J. facility. It is very small in size, almost appearing as a toy or miniature.
