BROWN BESS TRADE MODEL Description

- .75 cal. flintlock, 30.5 in. brown barrel, one-piece European walnut stock, brass furniture, serpentine sideplate, brown engraved lockplate, lock marked "GRICE 1762", crown over "GR" under pan, 7 lbs. 8 oz. Carbine version of the English Brown Bess Musket originally made from surplus guns bought from the British government in the early 1700s. The trade gun became a favorite of American Indians in the 1700s.
