.58 cal., lockplate marked "FAYETTEVILLE" with (Type II, III, and IV) or without (Type I) eagle over "C.S.A.", high humpback (Type I), low humpback (Type II), or no humpback (Type III and IV), dated 1861-1862 (Type I), 1862 (Type II), 1862-1863 (Type III), or 1864-1865 (Type IV), single shot muzzleloader, 33 in. round barrel marked "V", "P", eagle's head, and year, two barrel bands, MI1855 rifle pattern front sight and 1858 rear sight, brass trigger guard, walnut straight grip full stock with brass forend tip, most brass buttplates marked "C.S.A.", sling swivels on front band and trigger guard, iron ramrod, 8 7/8 lbs., 49 in. OAL. Mfg. 1861-1865. RF=5+ (Type I) and RF=2 (Type II - IV).
This model is similar to the Harpers Ferry U.S. Model 1855 and 1861 rifles.
