.32 ACP cal., 8 shot mag. (magazines with either be blue, nickel, or in-the-white), 3½ in. barrel, blue finish, marking on right side of slide: "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.A. PAT. AUG.20.'07. APRIL 13, 1909" in three lines, left side of slide "H&R SELF-LOADING CALIBER 32" in two lines at rear ser. no., the ser. no. is in its own series numbered 01 to approx. 34,500. Mfg. 1914-1924.
The First Variation is serial numbered 01 to approx. 2,000, 12 slide serrations, magazine follower is flat and straight, on right side of slide markings, the middle line is stretched out.
The Second Variation is serial numbered approx. 2,000 to 34,500+, 16 slide serrations, magazine follower is curved and stepped at rear, on the right side of slide markings the middle line is compacted and in line with other markings.
In order to take advantage of the wartime shortage of handguns, H&R offered the remaining inventory of the .32 Self-Loader in the 1939 and 1940 catalogs. Since this model was not sold in ser. no. sequence, it is impossible to tell when any one pistol was shipped between 1914-1924 or 1939-1940.
