.32 or .34 cal., single shot pistol with fixed knife blade under barrel, 3 in. round or octagon barrel, brass blade front and fixed notched iron rear sight on the frame, square back pointed trigger guard, iron frame, blade and barrel were blue and the remaining parts case hardened, smooth bag shaped one-piece walnut grip, 7-9 1/2 in. long and 1 to 1 1/2 in. tall blade which may be etched with ten stars over eagle with "Liberty" ribbon in its mouth and arrows in its talons over "Elgin's Patent" over flower arrangement in decorative pot on the right side, and two rows of stars over the same eagle motif over "Morrill, Mosman/& Blair/Amherst, Mass" over potted flower arrangement on the left side. Mfg. circa 1837-1839.
