.22 RF/shotshell cal., produced before and after WWII until roughly 1949. Pre-war (1940-42) guns identical to Model 42T except rifled adapter, open rear sight, and front sight hood were provided, and no stock swivels. The earliest pre-war 42TRs were marked using a 42T barrel stamp and a separate "R" (stamped to the right of the "T"). Post-war (1946-49) guns have slotted takedown screw, magazine plate, shorter unnecked forend, and (frequently) a blue bolt knob. The most common of all Targo guns. A total of 6,577 guns were produced during the period 1940-42 (post-war production figures are not available). Both early and late versions of this model are comparably priced.
Note: A very small number of 42TRs were supplied with fitted cases and Targo accessories and may have been used as dealer displays. Several variations in the internal compartmentalization of these cases have been noted. The pre-war 42TR display guns came in a hard (plywood) luggage case. The post-war guns were supplied in a semi-hard (fiberboard) luggage case.
