.36 cal. perc., 6 shot, unfluted cylinder, 7 1/2 in. octagon barrel, blue finish, two-piece walnut grips. Approx. 18,000 produced in percussion from 1863-1878 with serial range 21,000-48,000. None were martially marked at time of mfg. Approx. 4,000 were purchased by U.S. Navy during 1863-65 in serial range 21,000-32,000. Barrel address "Patented Sept. 14, 1858 - Manufactured by Remingtons', Ilion, N.Y. - New Model." Early specimens lack "New Model" markings on barrel and have transition features from "1861" model.
