SIG SAUER P226 Description
9mm Para. (disc. 1997, reintroduced 1999), .357 SIG (mfg. 1995-2016). or .40 S&W (mfg. 1998-disc.) cal., full size, choice of DA/SA or DAO (new 1992) operation, 10 (C/B 1994), 12 (new mid-2005, .357 SIG or .40 S&W cal.) or 15* (9mm Para. cal. only) shot mag., 4.4 in. barrel, alloy frame, currently available in blackened stainless steel (Nitron finish became standard 2000), two-tone (disc. 2011), reverse two-tone (.40 S&W cal. only - mfg. 2012 only), or nickel (disc. 2002) finish (stainless slide only), tactical rail became standard 2004, choice of traditional DA or DAK (disc.) trigger system (DAO with 6 1/2 lb. trigger pull, not available in all stainless) available beginning 2005, E2 grips became standard 2011, high contrast sights (9mm & .40 S&W, disc. 2015) or Siglite night sights became standard 2016, automatic firing pin block safety, 31.7 or 34 oz. New 1983.
Early models were built in West Germany. This model is also available in double action only (all finishes) at no extra charge.
This model was also available as a Custom Shop Limited Edition during Feb., 2004 (MSR was $1,085). A limited edition P226 America with blue titanium and gold finishes was also available from SIG's Custom Shop (MSR was $7,995).
