.44 Mag. cal., 4 screw, can be discerned by 2 exposed screws on lower right sideplate (one concealed by right grip, one in front of trigger guard). Mfg. 1957-1961 beginning w/approx. ser. no. S172250.
Approx. 300-400 .44 Magnums with a 5 in. barrel were manufactured between the Pre-Model 29 with a 4 screw frame, and the Model 29-2 with a 3 screw frame. Most models were primarily shipped from 1958-1963. Only one 5 in. barrel variation stamped MOD-29 has been documented.
It is recommended that all non-standard barrel lengths be documented by a factory letter when buying or selling.
