.38 S&W Special cal., DA revolver built on square butt alloy N 5 screw frame, approx. 12 aluminum alloy N frame handguns were made in various cals. and configurations as specials in 1955, several were 38/44 configuration with a steel cylinder, both 4 and 5 in. barrels made, "S" serial prefixes and "X" serial prefixes have been observed. It was verified that both target and fixed sight models were made in blue and nickel finish, alloy frames are 6 ounces lighter than their steel counterparts. Two are known in a private collection.
