A large grouping of over 7,000 Commercial 1911A1s was transferred to the U.S. government. These pistols had their commercial serial numbers crudely removed (in ser. range 860,000 - 866,000) and re-stamped with a new military serial number. Some of these guns are unusual as the frames and slides have been cut for the Schwartz safety.
