After 1962, only the 5½ gun was available as an LR only model (RSS5W). Walnut grips became standard equipment in 1960 and from 1960 to 1962 hard rubber grips were available only as an option on this model. Genuine stag and ivory grips were also available as an accessory for the XR3 grip frame and due to their rarity, authentication by an expert is necessary. Varnished walnut grips appear at ser. no. 160000. XR3 grip frame changed to XR3-RED in 1962 and was standard with oiled walnut grip panels and fitted with anodized aluminum ejector rod housing (1963).
