.69 cal., lockplate marked with eagle over "U.S." and "Springfield" behind hammer, single shot muzzleloader, 42 in. round smoothbore barrel with three bands, bayonet lug on bottom, breech marked "P", "V", and eagle's head, iron mountings, bright metal finish, walnut stock with comb, steel ramrod with trumpeted head, identical to Model 1840 Musket with exception to shape of the lock. Mfg. circa 1844-1855. RF=1.
This model was also manufactured at Harpers Ferry Armory circa 1844-1855.
