.58 cal., lockplate has Maynard tape priming system and is marked "U.S." over "Springfield" with date "1855" or "1856" at tail of lock, two line address in front of primer door, 12 in. round barrel, single barrel band, marked with "P", "V", and eagle's head, blade front sight, two-leaf folding rear sight, full walnut stock, sling swivels attached at buttstock, barrel band and tail of buttstock, swivel ramrod with incurved button tip, 17 3/4 in. OAL. with shoulder stock 28 1/2 in. Total of 4,000 guns manufactured circa 1855-1857. RF=2.
