.45-70 Govt. cal., hand engraved Gatling markings on breech, Colt markings on casing at trunnion area, ten enclosed 32 in. barrels, two sets of sights, one for .45-70-405 cartridges (left side), the other for .45-70-500 (right). Spirit levels also included. Side mounted crank, though this could be removed and mounted on the back of the breech, directly onto the main shaft for faster rate of fire. With side crank, cyclic rate was 800 rounds-per-minute; with crank at back on the main shaft, the rate reached as high as 1,500 rounds-per-minute. Interior parts were of heavier construction than previous models, to allow for stress of the extra speed of firing, w/o oscillator. Longer breech bolts, for Accles feed. (Accles feed did not use gravity, but relied on a propeller and groove systems). The propeller was turned by a barrel system which engaged as the firing crank was turned. The feed proved to be problematic and the Bruce system was installed to replace many Accles devices. Improvements of the Model 1883, particularly in ejector and in shell guide, 260 lbs. without mounts.
