.50-70-450 centerfire or 1 in. cal., gravity-fed box magazine, 6 (most common) or 10 (rare) exposed barrels, chambers were integral with barrels, bronze plaque on steel breech housing, and plaque bearing the Colt name and address in addition to the Gatling marking, eight Model 1865s were mfg. by Cooper Firearms Mfg. Co. during late 1865, the improved Model 1866 was mfg. by Colt in Hartford, CT beginning in 1866. RF=5+.
