MODELS 1874, 1875, 1876, 1877 Description

.45-70 Govt. or .50-70 cal. This model became the Model 1874. This new model was its bronze housing with the beginning of the collector named "Classic Gatlings". It was made in long and short ("Camel Gun") types, and also on order, in other calibers. Weight and size had been reduced from the Models 1871-1873. The new type magazine (trapezoid shaped) was placed in position vertically (earlier types were inserted at a 45 degree angle). At the same time the front and rear sights were moved to the right with the front. Mfg. by Colt 1873.

Beginning with the Model 1874, two set numbers were standard. Serial number on right side of frame (by trunnion); all other parts stamped with assembly numbers. Production for each year commenced with #1.
