MURATA TYPE 13 RIFLE Description
11×60mmR Murata cal., black powder cartridges, 32 in. barrel, single shot capacity, steel receiver, barrel, and fittings, ladder rear sight, blade front sight, full length smooth contour wooden stock, short (Type 13) or long (Type 18) stock wrist receiver tangs, two barrel retaining bands, bayonet lug on right side of forward barrel retaining band, two sling swivels mounted on rear barrel band and bottom of stock, blued finish, approx. 9 lbs. Type 13 Murata mfg. began circa 1880, Type 18 Murata mfg. began circa 1885, mfg. of all Murata rifles ceased entirely by 1905.
Type 13 rifles can be easily distinguished from Type 18 rifles by the location of the bolt stop. Type 13 rifles have the bolt stop attached to the top of the bolt body, whereas the Type 18 rifle has a threaded cross-bolt on the left side of the stock that stops the bolt.
