.69 cal., lockplate marked American eagle above "U.S.", "Springfield" marked vertically and date, single shot muzzleloader, 42 in. round barrel with three barrel bands, bayonet lug on bottom of barrel, bright metal finish, walnut stock, with high comb, iron mountings, detachable brass flashpan at rear, steel ramrod with trumpeted head. Mfg. circa 1849-1851. RF=4 (original flintlock) or RF=1 (percussion conversion).
Almost all of the productions of this model were altered from flintlock to percussion at one of the National Armories.
