U.S. MODEL 1875 OFFICER'S TRAPDOOR RIFLE - 1ST TYPE Description

.45-70 Govt. cal., lockplate marked "U.S." and "SPRINGFIELD" with date, single shot rifle, 26 in. barrel, single barrel band. Not serial numbered, single set trigger, iron mountings, blued finish with case colored (early mfg. only), slotted forend of cap, authentic decorative engraving on lockplate, barrel and buttstock, marked "P" on base of butt. Approx. 125 mfg. circa 1875-1877. RF=5.

Approximately 25 rifles were manufactured prior to the standardization of this model. The Model 1875 U.S. Officer's Rifle Trapdoor - Type 1, 2, and 3 were not government issued, but were sold to Army Officers for private sporting use.
