U.S. MODEL 1875 OFFICER'S TRAPDOOR RIFLE - 2ND TYPE Description

.45-70 Govt. cal., lockplate marked "U.S." and "SPRINGFIELD" with date, single shot rifle, 26 in. barrel, single barrel band. Not serial numbered, single set, iron mountings, blued finish with case colored (early mfg. only), similar configurations to the Model 1877 and Model 1879 U.S. Trapdoors, slotted forend of cap, authentic decorative engraving on lockplate, barrel and buttstock, marked "P" on base of butt. Approx. 250 mfg. circa 1877-1881. RF=4.

Approx. 25 rifles were manufactured prior to the standardization of this model. The U.S. Model 1875 Officer's Rifle Trapdoor - Type 1, 2, and 3 were not government issued, but were sold to Army Officers for private sporting use.
