U.S. MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR CADET RIFLE Description
.45-70 Govt. cal., lock marked with eagle and "US/SPRINGFIELD" ahead of hammer, breech block marked "US/MODEL/1884", possibly have "MODEL 1873" on breech, single shot trapdoor rifle, 29 1/2 in. barrel, 2 barrel bands, blued finish, two types - 1st Type features two-piece trigger guard with stacking swivel (approx. 2,000 mfg. circa 1888), 2nd Type features one-piece trigger guard with both stacking and sling swivels (approx. 10,000 mfg. circa 1890-1893). Mfg. circa 1888-1893. RF=3 (1st Type) and RF=1 (2nd Type).
This model was the last of the trapdoors manufactured for U.S. military contracts.
